Basics to Migrate SharePoint List Items with Sharegate

by

Since the publication of this article, Sharegate has updated and unified the migration interface of its Desktop Tool. The following screenshots may no longer be accurate, we are working on updating them.

There are many scenarios in which you would have to migrate SharePoint list items. One that comes instantly to mind is if you copy a list in SharePoint. This is what Sharegate's migration tool was developed to do in the first place. In our case here, let's see how we can copy List Items to another server!

SharePoint List Items Migration

1. Select the site from which you want to copy items

A good trick here would be to go to your site in a browser window and just copy paste it here. Remember, if you want to recreate the exact same list, you'll first have to copy the list in SharePoint with the Copy SharePoint Objects feature of Sharegate.

You'll then have to select the SharePoint list you wish to copy items from:

2. Now, Sharegate wants to know where you want to copy these items

Paste the destination server address here as you did for the source earlier.

And which list on that destination server. It you have made a copy of the list in SharePoint earlier, it's here to pick it to recreate the same list.

3. Select the SharePoint items you wish to copy and press the COPY button.

Note that you can also drag and drop them to destination. Before anything though, be sure to properly map the properties, content types, permissions, users and groups (top right corner).
